Petina’s House is only 400 metres from the beachfront, shops and tavernas. The crescent shaped bay has a shallow depth that is suitable for younger children and there are watersports and excursions available for hire, including windsurfing, kayaking, dinghy sailing and snorkeling.

There are also many tavernas, some on the water's edge, that supply traditional Greek and Cretan cuisine as well as more internationally recognised food and some also provide internet access. The area is also well known for a variety of interesting walks, both locally and in the mountains and details are available in the apartment. Cycling and mountain biking are other popular activities undertaken locally. There are also many places of local historical interest, principally at Aptera where there is a Roman excavation and an old Turkish fort.

Chania is the largest city in the area and has both modern and ancient Venetian parts with a spectacular harbour. As well as boasting many tourist attractions, including its archeological museum and maritime museum, Chania is able to provide for most shopping requirements and also has cinemas and other entertainment.

There is a horse riding centre in Georgioupolis approximately 40 minutes away and also Limnoupolis Water Park on the outskirts of Chania, also approximately 45 minutes away.Crete is an island with so much variety that it offers something attractive for everyone.

The principle draw to the island in the summer months is its hot weather, but there are also many unmissable cultural experiences to be enjoyed throughout the year.

The ancient Minoan settlement at Knossos is under two hours away near Heraklion and there are spectacular walks in the White Mountains close by including the famous Samaria Gorge.
